The BMW X7 expands the BMW product offensive in the luxury
The 1999 launch of the BMW X5, the first Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) on the market,
started a veritable boom for this type of vehicle that was to spread across all vehicle
classes: from the compact BMW X1 to the BMW X5. To date, BMW has sold over
six million BMW X models in total, Sports Activity Coupés (SAC) included. The X7 sees
BMW expanding its product portfolio into the class of large, particularly luxurious SUV
models. In so doing, it will attract new customers to the brand. The BMW X7 will thus
compete in a segment that is experiencing strong growth. Currently, the segment is
dominated by the Range Rover and its long-wheelbase (LWB) variant, along with the
Mercedes-Benz GLS and the massive Cadillac Escalade. These luxury off-roaders are
particularly popular with wealthy customers in the US and Canada, China, Russia and the

The BMW X7 is the 7 Series among the BMW X models, an SAV that combines an
exceptionally luxurious appearance with superb abilities as a leisure and family vehicle. As
the new range-topper in the X family, it raises the profile of BMW as a luxury brand. This
commitment is immediately obvious from the car's impressive visual presence. The
imposing front with the massive upright kidney grille, the tall rear, substantial ride height,
spacious dimensions and sophisticated proportions result in a car that has a unique stature
within the BMW model range, with a design that is also clearly different from the BMW X5.
Sophisticated interior, with a wide range of exclusive equipment
The interior of the BMW X7 features a cockpit marked by typical BMW driver orientation
and the high seating position with very good all-round visibility that is characteristic of X
models in general. Equipment includes a sport steering wheel, sport seats and a choice of
materials that meet the highest expectations in the luxury segment. The instrument panel is
divided into several horizontal layers and fully upholstered in leather, visually maximising the
interior's width. An exclusive option is "Crafted Clarity": this adds handmade, diamond-cut
glass trim elements to the gear selector, volume control, Start/Stop button and iDrive
BMW Live Cockpit
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Operating System 7.0, included as
standard in the BMW X7, ensures effortless control of vehicle functions. It combines the
fully digital, user-configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster with an equally large central
Control Display with touchscreen functionality and a state-of-the-art user interface.
Together with the optional BMW Head-Up Display, this means that drivers now find all the
most important information in their normal field of vision as they look at the road ahead.
The ability to display functions like navigation maps in the instrument cluster means that
the Control Display can take on an even greater amount of extended vehicle and
Depending on personal preferences, certain driving functions can be controlled in a number
of different ways: in addition to the touchscreen display and the iDrive Touch Controller, the
BMW X7 also comes with the voice-controlled BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant as
standard. This digital assistant understands natural speech, performs many functions and
answers questions about the vehicle (Product News 19/2018). BMW Gesture Control is
